2020

Oh 2020, you gave us plenty, whether it was a glass half full or a bottle half empty. Yet, did we ever think, as we shuffled to the brink, whilst we were busy being sad, was it OK to just be a little glad…

For that time, for that space, for the opportunity to just be in one place, to stand and look, or read a book, to watch the kids whilst the girl still vaguely liked her brother, to look out for one another?

Was it hard? Of course it was! Was it long? Did it make us strong? Did it give us a chance to breath? Did it give you the space you need? An opportunity to hit pause, or even open up new doors, to follow dreams and mend the seams from the old theme, of a once too fast pace way of life?

But we didn’t forget, we always knew, there is much loss as each day is through, as numbers run high with endless goodbyes, we have had what we could only hope, a chance to just be, a chance to see, a chance to hold on to what we dear most.

And with an ending out of reach, we find ourselves ready for another speech, it’s time to wait, to isolate, close the gate and seal our fate. The safety we once took for granted has once again parted, but was it really ever within our reach?

For those who we cry and with final goodbyes, let it be what drives us on, what shows us the way and gives strength for another day, so we may take a deep breath and say, today, I will survive.
